Tri Nations Rugby – The Northern Hemisphere’s biggest International competition is not far away from our Television sets now so I would like to take a look at who is offering the best price on the teams that will be fighting it out for the top of the table and the Championship.

Favourites and much improved in the last few years are the Welsh, after winning the Grand Slam in last year’s six nations and recently defeated a much improved Australian side they have been marked up at a healthy 5/2 with Victor Chandler and when you consider the World class talents of winger Shane Williams they have somebody who is guaranteed to score many tries and is a cert to finish as highest try scorer in the tournament also.
England who have been performing way below par since their Final appearance in the last Rugby Union World Cup have been offered at a best 3/1 with Paddy Power to win it but they will have to perform a lot better than their recent displays against the touring Southern Hemisphere sides in which they lost every game on home soil.
The French who are always their or their about have a healthy looking 10/3 being quoted at Ladbrokes and if I had to pick a side I would go with the French purely on the fact they are so strong at home and have a good up and coming set of players that know each other’s game inside out.
The Irish are no mugs either and at 4/1 with Sporting bet it just goes to prove that any of the top 4 can win this tournament with Scotland and Italy being rank outsiders and quite frankly do not have a chance.

coralcouk – With English Rugby at an all time low after both The League side and the Union side had disastrous campaigns in both the World Cup for the League side and the Test defeats against Australia, South Africa and the All Blacks on home soil for the Union side I think it is now time somebody sorted out what is actually going wrong at the top in both codes of the game.

It is hard to believe after watching England perform so badly at Twickenham against the best Southern Hemisphere sides that they actually reached the last Rugby Union World Cup final and what is even harder to believe is that quite a few of the side actually were involved in that World Cup squad so Head coach Martin Johnson really does have his work cut out to get the team thinking they can actually win again before the six nations start in the next few weeks.

One side that has took giant strides in the last few years is Wales and I think they will be crowned six nations winners come the end of the tournament and I for one will be having a few quid on them as besides the Irish I do not think any of the other sides in England, Scotland, France and Italy have been showing any sort of form recently and cannot be considered serious contenders in my opinion.

Although the National sides have been performing so badly the Club sides of England have been showing great potential in the Heineken Cup and I fully expect one of either Leicester or Harlequins to win the biggest competition for Clubs in Europe and at very good looking prices with a few of the online Bookmakers having a tipple on them now could reap rewards.

With eight points (Liverpool 1st on 37,, Arsenal 4th on 29) separating the top 4 clubs this week really is a must win game for both Arsenal and Manchester United sitting in 3rd otherwise I feel the top 2 of Liverpool and Chelsea might start to pull away from them.
Arsenal travel to out of form Middlesbrough who with star defender David Wheater suspended for the visit of the Gunners might find it hard work to keep Arsenal quiet and I think Arsenal will romp this game by at least two goals with Adebayor getting amongst the goals.

Manchester United face Tottenham at White Hart Lane and with Harry Redknapp’s boys now really starting to find their feet I can see this ending as a close score draw. Liverpool has the easiest looking game with a home game against Hull City and even though Torres will still be injured I think the reds will be too strong for the Premiership new boys and can see a 3-1 score line coming through the crystal ball.

Chelsea who play on Sunday host West Ham in a London Derby and nothing than a home win here I am afraid, 2 or 3-nil with Anelka to grab a brace.

Aston Villa who find themselves in a healthy 5th place should see of Bolton at Villa Park especially with the style of Football currently coming from Martin O Neil’s boys I can see this totally one sided and an easy 3 points.

As an English sports fans there’s something about the Australian’s losing at, well, anything that brings a warm feeling to even the coldest places of my soul.

And when that loss comes in a sport in which they were odds-on and sure they would win that pleasure is more than a palpitation.

After revelling in the Aussie cricket team losing their first test series since 1999 (to England by the way) I was given a second opportunity to take delight in the Aussie’s losing again as New Zealand landing the biggest sporting shock of the year and strip the Kangeroos of their Rugby League World Cup title in their own back yard!

Now it is fair to say the enjoyment of this event was tempered by the fact England were, quite frankly, awful in the tournament but still to see the Kiwi’s beat all the odds and become world champions was an example that there are no sure things in sport.

Before the tournament had even started many pundits were suggesting the title was either awarded straight to the Aussies or there should be one match between them and England to decide the event. What the doubters of this competition actually got was a lesson in what improvements can be brought about in the minnows of a sport with more competition against the big fish.

Not only did New Zealand surprise all but Fiji showed a vast progression in reaching the semi-finals. Scotland also won their first ever game at the event and even Papua New Guinea weren’t completely embarrassed. The only way these teams will improve is to keep playing the best and some time long in the future the Rugby League World Cup will be very competitive.
