www.sportingindex.com is the best known spread betting site on the internet. They claim to have around 70% of the spread betting market in the UK, and have just recently upgraded their website to improve functionality although the layout hasn’t changed.
For the newcomer, sportingindex.com can be rather confusing. The markets are difficult to understand at first, but with some studying one begin to understand how they work. However, even after a few practice bets the “Buy” and “Sell” options can still be confusing to the unseasoned spread better.

It’s exciting when you realise the potential of spread betting and the profits that can be made from small amounts and that’s the thing that hooks you, but those small amounts can quickly become large liabilities and you’re suddenly in dangerous territory! It soon becomes apparent to me that the regulars at this site must at a ‘higher level’ to understand the markets and keep their losses at a minimum. (On the other hand, perhaps I’m just not intelligent enough or worthy to be playing here at all! I shouldn’t bet above my station.)

Now I know www.sportingindex.com a little more it’s clear to me that they are actually a very approachable set up, and the intimidation I felt when first joining was simply because I was confused by the completely different system of betting than my usual fixed odds betting. It can still be a dangerous place though, so take care if you are considering trying them out.

Remember; when spread betting, high odds in your favour can soon become higher odds (and liability) against you so beware.

Rugby, this is a sport when I can have nothing but respect for the players, not because i’m a fan of the sport but for the sheer brutality they show but in a sporting manner, very rarely do you see any intention in hurting people or any disrespect shown to the referees, not like in football where a sneeze will have players rolling around in agony and referees being sworn at and pushed around.

There are two different kinds of rugby, those are Rugby League and Rugby Union. Rugby League is consisted of two teams of 13 players where as Rugby Union teams have 15 players on each team. Both are a competitive outdoor sport and are played with an oval ball, a constant joke between football fans is that rugby players are known as “egg catchers”, this is because of the oval ball. Rugby is quite often known as Rugby Football and people have never understood why this is as the ball is thrown out of a players hands mainly. This is because back in the days of 1845 a football team called Blackheath decided to leave the football associated and form a rugby team, hence the term Rugby Football. In rugby the ball is not allowed to be thrown forward, although it can be kicked forward. The ball must be thrown in line or behind to another player and the aim is to run to the back of the oppositions half and slam the ball down behind the line, this is called a Try.
