The first Ever Charity Shield match was played in 1908 and it was between Manchester United, the then reigning Football League Champions, and Queens Park Rangers, then Southern League Champions. The winners of the Premier League and the FA Cup play each other for the first piece of silverware season and The FA Charity Shield was then moved to coincide with the start of the new season in 1959, and it is now known is the traditional starter of the English football campaign
The first ever Wembley held FA Shield match was watched by a 67,000 fans, and what a great match they got to see, but in the end it was Liverpool who claimed victory after beating Leeds 6-5 on penalty kicks, after the full time score was a draw at 1-1.
